Each plank reflects how I'd actually weigh decisions as a trustee: listening widely, following the evidence, and being honest about trade-offs.
The best school-board decisions come from genuinely hearing everyone the district serves (parents, teachers, administration, and the broader community), and then making the district as successful as possible for all of them.
A school board's core job is governance: setting direction, supporting and evaluating the superintendent, approving the budget, and making sure the district is well run. I want to do that work carefully and openly, coming prepared with thoughtful questions, understanding how decisions play out for students and staff, and explaining the reasoning so families can follow along. That's the kind of stewardship I bring from years of leading large organizations.
Our kids deserve instruction grounded in evidence: science-backed early literacy and math that gives every student a strong foundation. AI is coming to classrooms whether we're ready or not, so the district needs to plan for it now. I work in that world, so I can help the board think it through with real understanding.
Fewer Los Altos families are choosing LASD than a decade ago, and most of that choosing happens early, when families decide where to start TK or kindergarten. Our schools are strong; we lose families when we don't make the case for how good they are. I want LASD to be a district families actively choose.
Every family should feel the district was built with them in mind, across neighborhoods, languages, learning needs, and backgrounds. A community that works for everyone is a stronger community for each of us.
